The Bet framework: the technology behind our websites, e-shops and software

Adam Peter created Bet in 2023 as a fast, clear alternative to off-the-shelf content management systems. We have been actively developing it ever since, and it also powers the AP Development website you are reading.

Why Bet was created

  • Off-the-shelf CMSs drag along dozens of plugins that constantly need updating and watching.
  • Templates are slow and carry code the website does not need at all.
  • Multiple languages and per-language SEO require yet more add-ons.
  • The client pays licence fees and is tied to a system they do not understand.

We use Bet only where it makes sense

Bet is not the answer to everything. We use it for websites, catalogues, smaller e-shops, portals and custom applications. When a client has a working system on another technology, we develop that – like the Sklomat.cz e-shop in Nette. And when an off-the-shelf solution fits better, we say so.

Strengths

Speed

No unnecessary layers or plugins. A page loads only what it actually needs.

Multilingual at the core

Each language has its own URLs, copy and SEO. Another language can be added without rebuilding the site.

Clear configuration

Site structure, pages, copy and SEO live in JSON files. Changes are quick and traceable.

Content management

Bet Manager lets you edit copy and content without programming.

Modules and integrations

Forms, catalogues and connections to APIs, invoicing or ERP are added as modules as the project needs.

No licences, no lock-in

No system fees. The code belongs to the client and any PHP developer can take it over.

View:
Technical details, technologies and architecture

Technical view

  • PHP 8, our own core with no CMS dependency
  • Pages, languages and SEO defined in JSON
  • Localised URLs, hreflang, canonical and structured data
  • Modules and an AJAX layer for forms and integrations
  • Bet Manager – content administration
  • Every new site starts from a clean core
  • Runs on standard Linux hosting with Apache

Results

  • This website runs on Bet too: AP Development in four languages.
  • New sites start from a clean core, so development is faster and free of clutter.
  • Clients get a website with no licences, plugins or monthly system fees.
  • Content is edited in Bet Manager without programming.
  • We actively develop the framework: improvements from individual projects flow back into the core.

What it means for the client

Licences
€0, no system fees
Code
belongs to the client; another PHP developer can take it over
Hosting
standard PHP hosting or our server
Development
we have been actively improving the core since 2023

We use Bet only where it fits. On other projects we work with the technology the client already has.

Bet framework

“I wrote Bet because I wanted websites that are fast, clear and where I know exactly what every line does. No magic, and no plugins that stop working a year from now.”

Adam Peter, author of the Bet framework
